Learn about our model

The Partner Model

We refer to the organizations and groups that camp with us as our partners because we truly create this experience together. Our partners handle the crucial work of bringing their campers, counselors, and specialized medical staff, offer vital insight about the population they serve, and collaborate with their designated Camp Aranzazu team member throughout the planning process. While our team handles the customized design of their camping session and activity facilitation while at camp, we rely on feedback from our partners to ensure we tailor the camp experience to best fit their group's needs.

From meals tailored for special dietary needs to medical devices to adaptive kayak paddles, our highly trained staff researches and sources everything we can for the care and comfort of your campers. Essentially, we design an entire camp experience around every partner and their specific goals and challenges! Our dedicated activity leaders and full-time program team members have years of experience in therapeutic recreation, special education and camping, and they love creating intentional, unforgettable memories for every camper.

"I can see huge benefits and differences in our students who attend summer camp versus those who do not. The children who attended Camp Aranzazu reflect better self-esteem, greater confidence, and more independence in the classroom. They also are more willing to attempt new lessons and activities at school. When they succeed at a new activity at camp, and that lesson stays with them during the school year."

Cindy Thomas, Former Special Education teacher and Summer Camp Coordinator The Tuttle School at Briarwood

"AVDA’s clients are survivors of domestic abuse, and they and their children have been through so very much as a result of the abuse. AVDA’s camp, aptly named 'Camp Carefree,' provides them with a healing, safe, relaxing few days to enjoy being together without the fears, frustrations and challenges they face in their day-to-day lives. Camp Aranzazu's staff ensures that everyone felt welcome, secure and genuinely cared for."

Sherry Kendall, Chief Executive Officer at Aid to Victims of Domestic Abuse (AVDA)

"I have seen miracles happen at camp, which is why camp is one of my favorite parts of being a pediatric oncologist. I have seen children who are in wheelchairs get up and walk by the end of camp because they see other children with the same disease who are able to play and enjoy life."
